JEFFTREAT® M-500 series of formulated solvents is specially designed for bulk and deep CO₂ removal applications.
- Applications
- Jefftreat® M-505 solvent is a methyldiethanolamine (MDEA)-based solvent formulated to provide deep removal of carbon dioxide (CO2) from applications such as hydrogen production, ammonia manufacture, cryogenic gas processing, and LNG production. It can be used in either gas or liquid treating applications. Compared to the ethanolamines (MEA and DEA) and ethanolamine formulated solvents, JEFFTREAT® M-505 solvent allows deeper CO2 removal with greater capacity. This deep treat is due to the solvent’s higher reaction rate with CO2 compared to MDEA solvents formulated with ethanolamines. The solvent formulation provides rapid reaction with CO2 while retaining most of the ease of regeneration inherent in MDEA-based solvents.
- In addition, Jefftreat® M-505 solvent demonstrates exceptional stability under high temperature and highly loaded conditions. Improved product stability means decreased product degradation resulting in longer solvent life. The JEFFTREAT® M-500 series of products have been commercially demonstrated to solve the problem of soluble metal accumulation, which is a known weakness of first- and second-generation formulated MDEA products.
- Jefftreat® M-505 bulk CO2 solvent should be considered mainly for applications in which H2S is not present or applications in which the mole ratio of CO2 to H2S in the untreated gas is fairly high (>100).

- Storage and Shelf Life Information
- The product should retain its conformance to sales specifications for a period of at least two years after date of manufacture if the product is stored at less than 100°F in its undamaged, unopened, factory packaged container.
- The properties and alkaline nature of JEFFTREAT® solvents should be considered when choosing materials of construction. JEFFTREAT® solvents should not be stored in tanks made from zinc, galvanized steel, or copper and its alloys since the solvent will react with copper to form complex salts. Also avoid the use of elastomers such as Buna N, VITON® elastomer, neoprene, and nitrile as these materials tend to swell when exposed to the amine. KALREZ® 1050 LF elastomer performs satisfactorily in amine service as well as materials made from polypropylene and TEFLON® elastomer.
- A carbon steel storage tank, constructed according to a recognized code, is generally satisfactory. Carbon steel transfer lines, joined by welds or flanges, are suitable. Screw joints are subject to failure unless back-welded. FLEXITALLIC® gaskets work well for flanged connections. For pumps, a Durametallic Type RO-TT mechanical seal or equivalent is suitable.
