This product is a specially formulated liquid primer created to enhance the adhesion of coatings and adhesives onto various rubber materials, including sponge, molded, or dense EPDM rubber, as well as TPE, TPV, and TPO. This primer is user-friendly and ready for immediate use. It is recommended to apply relatively low dry film weights of This product to promote effective adhesion of topcoats or adhesives onto challenging-to-bond substrates. This product can be applied as is, and it offers enhanced glass chisel abrasion resistance when used with glass run coatings.

    Method of Use

    Surface Preparation

Surfaces to be coated must be clean, dry and free from dust and grease. Usually an alcohol wipe is sufficient.

    Mixing and Dilution

The product is supplied ready-for-use. Stirring or shaking the material is recommended prior to use to improve uniformity.

    Application

The product can be applied by swab or spray application. It is preferable that only a thin even layer of coating be applied (app. 1 micron (0.04 mil) dry). For spray application in small volume production and prototype, a suction cup gun may be used. In full production a standard spray system designed to apply solvent- based coatings can be used. LOCTITE TP 650 should be applied as is for applications onto thermoplastic substrates and applications where maximum abrasion resistance is required.

    Drying

Air dry the coated parts for 5 - 10 minutes at room temperature or for 60 - 80°C 1-2 minutes (depending on humidity) before applying final coating. Drying time for production operations can be decreased by passing coated parts through infrared heat, or through batch or conveyor ovens. When applying to hot substrates, ensure that primer does not boil or blister.
