- Chemical Stability and Compatibility
Natural broad-spectrum antimicrobial blend in powder form consisting of gluconolactone (microbial fermentation of corn) which has chelating and hydrating benefits and potassium sorbate (food grade preservative). Gluconolactone and Potassium Sorbate act as an efficient preservative. Gluconolactone works by slowly releasing gluconic acid over time, which helps contribute to the preservation. Potassium sorbate is a preservative with bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties under acidic conditions (pH should be 6 or below). Calcium gluconate is added at a very low level as an inert flow agent. Gluconolactone is reported to stabilize potassium sorbate against discoloration and darkening in aqueous solutions and may be useful in stabilizing sorbic acid in the water phase of a product.
