SILICA GEL GRADE 59 is a buffer gel for protecting adsorbent beds, a wide-pore, granular form of amorphous synthetic silica gel. It exhibits a high water capacity under conditions of high relative humidity and, in particular, when water is present in the liquid phase. It also has a high capacity for liquid hydrocarbons and other organic liquids. When wet, it maintains its mechanical strength and integrity. For this reason, is used as a buffer layer in molecular sieve and silica gel beds that may be subject to occasional liquid carryover.
