- L-arginine is considered a semi-essential amino acid meaning that it becomes essential under certain circumstances and conditions, including pregnancy, infancy, critical illness, and trauma. The letter L in front of arginine stands for “levorotatory,” which is a chemistry term that means the amino acid didn’t bond with a protein molecule (free form).
- L-arginine supplements are taken by many populations, including athletes who use it to boost nitric oxide levels (blood flow regulation) and those who have certain medical conditions like high blood pressure.
- They’re also used in the clinical setting to treat critically ill people or those with wounds. Research has shown that L-arginine may offer a variety of potential benefits when used as a supplement. There is no standard recommended dose of L-arginine.
- The appropriate dose for you may depend on factors including your age, gender, and medical history. Various doses of L-arginine have been studied in research investigating its effect on different conditions. For example, for chest pain, a dose of 2-6 grams three times per day for up to one month has been used.
- For erectile dysfunction, a dose of five grams per day has been used. And in studies investigating high blood pressure, a dose of 4-24 grams per day for 2-24 weeks has been used. Additionally, L-arginine can be obtained by taking supplements.
- BioEssenceTM ARG has demonstrated its potential in anti-glycation, so it can function as an effective ingredient in anti-aging.
