This product is an odorless blue crystal that readily dissolves in water. It is also soluble in methanol, and glycerol, and slightly soluble in ethanol. Copper Sulfate, sometimes referred to as Blue Vitriol or blestone, is a readily available and economical source of copper.

    • Old Bridge Copper Sulfate, Crystal (Feed), Mining Grade is used for as a floatation reagent in the recovery of zinc and lead in mining applications.
    • The Sphalerite (ZnS) that is rejected during Lead- Zinc Ore mining operations.
    • The lead flotation tails is then floated in a second flotation step after activation with copper sulfate.
    • The copper ions replace zinc atoms on the sphalerite surface creating a pseudo-copper mineral surface coverage on the sphalerite which is then collected using copper flotation type collectors.

    Storage & Handling

    Storage Information

    Copper Sulfate should be stored in a cool, dry place. Keep containers closed. Solutions of Copper Sulfate should be stored in tanks fabricated of Type 316 Stainless steel, rubber-lined steel tanks or plastic tanks.

    Handling Information
    • Copper Sulfate is acidic and causes severe eye irritation.
    • It may be irritating to the skin and may cause sensitization reactions in certain individuals.
    • Avoid breathing the dust as it may be irritating to the upper respiratory tract.
    • Contact with eyes and skin should be avoided through the use of safety goggles and rubber gloves.
    • In case of eye contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes and call a physician.
    • If Copper Sulfate is ingested, give large amounts of milk or water. Call a physician.
    • Contaminated clothing should be thoroughly washed before reuse.
