It is a mixture of esters of C14-C18 alcohols with lauric (dodecanoic), myristic (tetradecanoic), palmitic (hexadecanoic), and stearic (octadecanoic) acids. It comprises white or almost white, waxy pellets that are practically insoluble in water but soluble in boiling anhydrous ethanol and methylene chloride. They are slightly soluble in light petroleum and practically insoluble in anhydrous ethanol. It finds application in various color cosmetics such as blush, mascara, eye liner, lipstick, and eye shadow.
