    Application Information

Flame retardant textiles (binders and backcoatings):

For textiles FR CROS® 490 can be used either alone or as part of an intumescent system. The product is listed at OEKO-TEX in order to create certified high quality standard textiles. Due to its low solubility FR CROS® 490 provides flame retardancy as well as water stability. It´s compatible with commonly used binders in textile treatment. However it is recommended to check the compatibility of FR CROS® 490 with the binder system. The addition level depends on the weight of fabric and the requirements for flame retardancy. Typically the flame retardant finish contains 20 – 50 g/m2 of FR CROS® 490.

    Intumescent coatings:

FR CROS® 490 is particularly suitable to use it in surface coatings such as intumescent paints and mastics for the passive fire protection of structural steel and wood. The insolubility in organic solvents and the low solubility in water allows the formulation of solvent- and water-based paints. 20 % - 25 % FR CROS® 490 based on total weight of the liquid paint is used in the formulation of intumescent paints.

    Polyester and other Resins:

FR CROS® 490 is the first choice whenever low viscosity, high flame retardancy and halogen free compositions are required. In comparison to inorganic fillers such as ATH, there is less FR CROS® 490 required for the same level of flame retardancy. In unsaturated polyester resins typically no further char promoter such as pentaerythritol is necessary.
