FR CROS® 584 is a long chain ammonium polyphosphate phase II. It is a fine white powder used in solvent- and water based intumescent coatings. FR CROS® 584 offers highest quality combined with a unique long term shelf life in waterborne paints. The product has a very low solubillity in water and is insoluble in organic solvents.
Above temperatures of 300°C FR CROS® 584 decomposes to polyphosphoric acid which dehydrates polyols, carbohydrates and other ROH or RNH containing substances. Subsequently the generated char is expanded by water and ammonia and a solid heat protective barrier is foamed up.- Product Highlights

The insolubility in organic solvents and the very low solubility in water allows the formulation of stable coatings. Approximately 20-25 % FR CROS® 584, based on total weight of the liquid paint, is used in formulations of intumescent paints.
